Last week I shared how important it is to fully understand who your company is and to know its purpose. We discussed that many companies base their identity on what they do instead of who they are. There are a few risks involved in doing this which you can find by reading last week’s blog. Remember, “a profit is achieved through the pursuit of a greater purpose, and a handsome profit is earned when doing that purpose well.”
The embodiment of who you are is your essence. That’s the seed of your company. The best way to discover your seed is going back to the very beginning. Strip away all the flashes and fancy aspects that create your business. What’s left?
For Jerome Schofield cc insurance brokers (JSib), it’s relationships.
JSib’s essence is relationships. These relationships: the one we have with you, our employees, partners, the community, our clients, force us into our purpose. How does this happen? Well, these healthy relationships connected JSib to a community that’s ever growing, and it’s in this community that the brokerage finds itself working naturally towards its purpose–“to humanise before we monetise.” In other words, to bring impartiality, fairness, equity and honesty back to the business world. To change the way the world does business. That’s what we want to be known for. That’s what we want to achieve.
You’ll find that your essence will be parallel to your purpose. It will also drive and edify your business’ purpose too. Well, at least that’s what a strong essence does.
Here’s a little diagram of JSib’s seed.
Naturally, your essence should guide you into your purpose. Just like a seed naturally grows a root when planted in the right conditions, your essence will extend into your purpose.
This seed and this root together form a value system that keep your business unshakable, steadfast and tireless regardless of the seasons or circumstances you may face. I’ll share about this value system that will help your business remain unbreakable on Thursday next week.
